Douglas Kaplan, Esq.

Doug, a native of Illinois, has been practicing law in Maine since 1983. He received his B.A. from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, in 1978. After college, he worked for the U.S. Senate. In 1983, Doug graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School where he was on the law review. After law school, he returned to Maine and practiced with Warren M. Silver, Esq. in Bangor from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, he moved to Portland where he practiced with the law firm of Bornstein and Hovermale as a partner until 1995.

In 1995, Doug co-founded Kaplan & Grant, where he and Ben Grant have assisted thousands of Maine's injured and disabled citizens. Doug has lectured at numerous professional seminars. He was the Counselor to the Edward T. Gignoux Inn of Court, a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Maine State Bar Association, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Maine and Massachusetts as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Doug is also a past President of the Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth. He and his wife, Ann, have two children, Samuel and Lisa.

Benjamin Grant, Esq.

Ben, a native of Wisconsin, has been practicing law in Maine since 1986. He first came to Maine to attend Bowdoin College, graduating in 1980, magna cum laude, with a degree in biochemistry. He graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 1986. While at Northeastern, he chaired the Equal Justice Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing access to the justice system for traditionally under represented segments of society, and co-founded a public interest law fellowship funded by alumni.


His attachment to the state brought him back to Maine following law school. He worked for the Portland law firm of Bornstein & Hovermale for eight years, representing clients in worker's compensation, personal injury, and social security disability cases.

In 1995, Ben co-founded Kaplan & Grant, where he specializes in handling workers' compensation and social security disability cases. He strives to treat each client with respect, making sure he or she receives the personal attention they deserve.Ben also has a long history of providing legal assistance to low-income clients through the Volunteer Lawyers Project. He has received the Maine Bar Foundation's Pro Bono Award, given to the attorney who takes the most pro bono cases in a year, for 14 of the past 26 years. He has represented over 250 clients in landlord/tenant and unemployment compensation cases.


Ben is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and Maine Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Maine.  Ben and his wife, Caroline Eliot, have two sons, Elias and Caleb.

Traci Gerow  - Traci has worked with Doug and Ben since June, 1986. She is the office manager at Kaplan & Grant and also performs paralegal duties for both Doug 's and Ben's clients. She spends her free time playing softball and golf during the summer and cross-country and downhill skiing during the winter

Heather Gosch  - Heather was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. She earned her BA degree at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1988, and received a certificate in paralegal studies from Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland, in 1991.


Heather moved to Maine in 1991 and has been working as a paralegal in the field of workers' compensation and personal injury since then. She joined Kaplan and Grant in June, 1996 and works with Ben Grant as his paralegal.
